Levitating lamp marries beauty and simplicity

The selection of furniture, materials and lighting within a space define who we are. Searching for items that portray both creativity and a hint of whimsical may seem like a difficult task. This is why the Silhouette Floating Lamp can light the way. It skillfully combines a sense of classical elegance with the artistry of technology.

The Silhouette Floating Lamp is a creation by Eindhoven Design Academy graduate Angela Jansen. The lamp consists of an upper part that levitates via the use of electromagnets, while the lower part houses a ring of LEDs that reflect off the suspended mirror above and disperses the light. The wooden base is handcrafted and finished in a glossy black with a 2 meter black fabric-covered power cable attached to it. The lamp itself has a light intensity of 300 lux and sheds 15 watts of light when the LEDs are fully turned on. In addition, finger-touch dimming as well as an universal power adapter sporting an EU plug is provided. The Silhouette Floating Lamp is priced at USD $1,350.00.
